LIFE by Arthur Kyi

Life is just a bridge that spans
‘Twixt cradle and the grave
First ‘tis the child’s then ‘tis the man’s
Turn to become its slave
‘Tis but a person’s certain measure
Of a certain length of time
Containing happiness, sorrows, pleasures,
With each self-centred “mine”
For each of us with tears and a cry
We leave our mother’s womb
To live, to experience sorrow and joy
Till with tears we enter our tomb
Alas! Life is, to the enlightened
So likened much to trash
Thus does it matter, when dust returneth  to dust
And ash returneth … to ash
